RS422/485 Serial Communications As Standard

The S2000 Controller utilises the latest microprocessor technology and surface mount printed circuit assembly to fit extraordinary power and facilities into a DIN 96 x 48mm plug-in panel mount housing. A unique, very high performance, charge balancing analogue to digital converter, updating four times per second, ensures accurate temperature measurement from any of the commonly used thermosensor types. The advanced, auto-tuning, PID control algorithm gives exceptional stability of control with rapid response to change. FGH Controls' thermal- head ratio system is also supported to enable very fast heating without overshoot in systems with long response lags.

Modular Input/Output

The Series 2000 is fitted as standard with one universal input channel configurable to suit thermocouples, resistance thermometers and mV/mA type inputs from transmitters or other instruments. Two digital inputs allow connection to PLC outputs for close integration of a wide range of secondary operations. Input/Output facilities are fully modular with single analogue input, single analogue output, single relay or dual relay modules available. Additional modules can be fitted at any time in any of three options slots to give combinations of up to two analogue inputs, three analogue outputs and up to five relay outputs. Motor valve drive with or without feedback slidewire is supported without the use of an external driver unit. This exceptional flexibility makes Proteus 2000 instruments ideal for departments that carry spares and for stocking distributors who can offer many different models from a modest inventory. Security is provided by a four digit password to prevent tampering while giving engineers fast access to the profile setting and configuration menus.

Serial Communications

Proteus 2000 controllers are fitted as standard with serial communications to RS422/485. The standard protocol is compatible with FGH Series 1000 and 3000 instruments, RDA data acquisition units, the ICU and other FGH products. It is supported by many third party software products including FGH Data Manager and third party Wizcon SCADA and Specview packages. FGH PC utilities simplify instrument maintenance and data acquisition, but all control operation is dependant of the PC to ensure that single loop integrity is preserved all times.

Proteus S2000 Auto-Hand Station

The S2000 AHS is a self powered auto-hand station that provides bumpless transfer for critical outputs. Auto-manual switching can be accomplished by logic inputs, from the front panel controls or via the serial communications port. Password security can be applied if required.

The firmware for the AHS functions is resident in all S2000 controllers and can be selected from the set-up menu, eliminating the need for separate spares for AHS units.

Proteus P2000

The Proteus 2000 auto-tuning, modular, communicating temperature controller packs all the features of a quarter DIN (96 x 96mm) controller into a plug-in eight DIN (96 x 48mm) housing, water and dust proof to IP65 and only 150mm deep. Dual displays, orange for measured variable and green for setpoint, comply with the EN60204 recommendations for annunciation and tactile rubber buttons with a user friendly menu system provide easy to use operator controls. The Proteus 2000 uses the well proven auto-tuning control algorithm from the Proteus 1000 range and also supports FGH's thermal head ratio control system for faster heating of large loads. All proteus 2000 instruments are fitted with serial communications to RS422/485.

10 Profiles, 10 Segments Each In Standard Version

Configurable 500 Segment Option, eg. 10 Profiles Of 50, 50 Profiles Of 10

Times Set In Hours - Minutes for Ease Of Programming

Delayed Start, Up To 99 Hours 59 Minutes

Up To 999 Profile Cycles

Intelligent Profile Restart After Power Loss

Software For Upload And Download Of Profiles From PCs

Multiple Profiles

The standard version of the P2000 profiler/controller provides 10 profiles of up to 10 segments each and 500 segments in the expanded version. The 500 segments can be arranged as required, for example, 10 profiles of 50 each or 50 profiles of 10 segments each.

Easy To Use

In normal use the operator has only to select the desired profile and press start. The P2000 does the rest. It even determines the current value of the measured variable and starts the profile from that point. Dual four digit LED readouts give simultaneous display of measured value and setpoint. Four tactile control buttons, a grouped menu system with near plain language mnemonics and eight status LEDs make the Series 2000 very easy to use.

Powerful Control Options

Extensive use of local intelligence ensures that the P2000 is very effective in controlling exactly to the programmed profile. For example, profiles always start from the actual plant temperature, and operation can be paused automatically when the plant heating rate lags behind the profile. For use with environmental chambers and similar systems, full heat-cool control with independent control criteria for each output is supported. Unusually for a ¼ DIN 96/48 instrument, option modules control motorised valve drivers without needing external interface units. Interaction with PLC's and control of safety interlocks etc. is carried out by event relay outputs controlled from within the profile. Up to four event relays can be fitted within the P2000 or an interface card drives eight relays mounted externally.

Serial Communications

The Proteus 2000 controllers are fitted as standard with serial communications to RS422/485. The standard protocol is compatible with FGH Proteus 1000, 3000, RDA, ICU and other FGH products. It is supported by many third party software products, as well as FGH's SCADA package, Data Manager, which allows data acquisition from profilers as well as creation and maintenance of profiles for downloading to the P2000. However, all profile execution is independent of the PC to ensure that single loop integrity is preserved at all times. Installed profilers can also be interrogated to upload a copy of any locally stored profiles for storage on a PC. In the event of needing to replace an instrument on the shop floor, e.g. for recalibration, the profiles can quickly be downloaded to the new instrument.

Proteus M2800

FGH Control's M2800 Series communicating burner controller is designed to improve fuel efficiency and give better temperature distribution in gas and oil fired kilns and furnaces by pulse firing multiple burners. The M2800 saves fuel by controlling the firing time of up to 8 burners in a preset sequence to achieve the required overall heating level while always firing each individual burner at maximum efficiency. Turbulence is created by firing the burners sequentially and this improves the distribution of hot gas and so reduces temperature gradients around the kiln.

Sequential control of up to 8 burners

Maximum efficiency at all times

Improves temperature distribution

Standard analogue input from any controller or profiler e.g. S2000

Displays percentage of power

Displays status of all 8 burners

Individual burner trim

Control of cycle via programmable on/off times

RS485/422 serial communications as standard

Simple Displays And Controls

The M2800 accepts a 4-20mA demand input from an FGH Proteus 1000, 2000 or 3000 series controller or profiler and shows 0-100% demand on the digital display. Eight LED indicators, one for each burner, show which burners are firing. The comprehensive set up menu includes a 2-8 "quantity of burners" setting and a control of minimum firing time to allow for burner ignition. User set multiplier constants trim the relative duty cycle of each burner to compensate for additional heat loss at, for example, the end zone of a tunnel kiln. The M2800 can also be used with temperature controllers from other manufacturers that are bale to provide a 4-20mA or 0-10V demand signal.

Burner Interface

Logic outputs are provided to control the solid state relays that drive the burners. By siting the M2800 local to the burners, considerable cabling can be saved since only the single 4-20mA demand signal need be wired to the controller in place of up to 8 burner control circuits.

Serial Communications

Communications via an RS485/422 serial link provides detailed operational and diagnostic information to computer based supervisory control systems. Optional 4-20mA or similar recorder outputs can be provided from the associated temperature controller. The M2800 is compatible with all other FGH communicating instruments and FGH SCADA Systems.
