The following converters are for interfacing FGH products to a PC, and the appropriate connecting leads are listed below them. They are used to convert EIA RS232 Serial Communications signal from a host computer into an RS422/485 signal that FGH instruments use. The converter is simply interfaced with a communications port on the computer, and a series of wires are connected to an FGH product. All of these converters have been tried and tested reliably.

The FGH range of PP Relay Units has been designed to interface between a temperature controller/profiler generator and motorised positioner to provide position control of a valve. Although primarily designed for use with FGH instruments they will operate with ant proprietary controller which can provide analogue voltage or current signals. All models are standard 96 x 48mm front fascia presentation and incorporate integral power supply, 2 output relays rated 500 VA, auto/manual change over and associated raise/lower push buttons for use in manual mode. A horizontal indicator is included to display valve position (when connected) together with LED's to show whether the valve is opening or closing. In order to give enhanced levels of control, two adjustable potentiometers are provided, one to give a variable dead-band (all models), the other to either for offset adjustment (Model PP1) or adjustable integral action (models PP2 and PP3). Three different models are available: PP1 Designed to operate with either proportional only or full 3 term controllers, and positioners fitted with a position feed-back slide-wire. The offset adjustment is used to reduce or eliminate inherent offset when using proportional only controllers. When used with 3 term controllers, it can reposition the effective control point (useful when controlling butterfly valve assemblies). Provides position proportioning control via the 2 output relays. PP2 As with the PP1 model a position feed-back slide-wire is required, but this model operates with proportional only controllers. The offset potentiometer is replaced by an integral time adjustment potentiometer to provide effective P + I control to the loop. Again provides position proportioning control. PP3 This model can be used with motor positioners having no position feed-back slide-wire. Integral time adjustments vary from 1 to 10 minutes to 4 to 40 minutes, dependent on the motor positioner full scale travel time. Unlike the PP1 and PP2 models, this version provides a pulse stepping control output to the motor positioner. The indicator is inoperative on PP3 units normally, but if a positioner with feed-back potentiometer is used, then the indicator will display % valve position. All models are dual voltage as standard having a power consumption of 5VA. A manual mode inhibit facility is also fitted as standard (available from the rear of the instrument). All of these instruments carry a one year warranty.
I580 Multi-Range Digital Indicator
Fully field configurable for range, the I580 offers a high brightness, high contrast four digit 14mm LED display of temperature. This high accuracy instrument has max. errors of less than 0.25% for thermocouple, resistance thermometer, resistance and mV/mA inputs. Noise immunity of 140dB CMRR and 60dB SMRR is designed to withstand heavy industrial environments without flicker or other errors, and the temperature coefficient of 100ppm per degree C ensures accuracy throughout the environmental range normally encountered in industry. The I580 comes as standard with ranges for all common thermosensor types such as J, K, T, R, & S plus many less common types such as B (Pt6%Rh/Pt30%Rh) and W5%Re/W26%Re, useful for high temperature applications in metals and ceramics processing. Resolution is 1 degree C or F, with 0.1 degree resolution offered on Pt100 and Ni100 ranges. Resistance ranges measure to 0.1 ohms. Range selection is by means of a multiple DIL switch accessible through the bottom of the instrument case. The same switch also selects display in degrees C or degrees F, and selects automatic or external cold junction compensation for thermocouple ranges. To access the range change switch, it is only necessary to loosen the panel mounting screws and draw the instrument forward 30mm. Field selectable ranges mean only one unit for users to stock for spares. For reselling distributors, a wide range of different instruments can be offered from stock with an inventory of only one type of unit. Because recalibration is not required after range change, changes can be made in the field, in stores etc., not just in the instrument laboratory. The isolated analogue retransmission signal option provides a compensated, linearised signal of 1mV per display digit for use with recorders, data loggers, etc. Isolation is rated for 500v DC or pk AC to ensure safety with possible live thermocouples in electrically heated ovens or furnaces. The I580 is housed in a DIN 96x48mm panel mounting steel case with an ABS bezel, is just 147mm deep behind the panel, weighs 540g and can be powered from 110V 0r 230V AC mains. It is offered with a 1 year warranty. The DRM unit is a low cost self-powered module suitable for remote mounting, and can be supplied either as a controller (DRM-C), an interface module (DRM-I) or a buffer unit (DRM-B). DRM-C This unit functions as a remote proportional controller, with a thermocouple measured value input, and P.W.M. setpoint input (standard output option on FGH profile generators). Proportional band is adjustable from 2 to 20 deg C, and the control output signal can be ON/OFF or time proportioning relay, time proportioning logic, or continuous current signal. A variable HOLD facility with options on type of HOLD is also incorporated. Up to 6 DRM-C's can be operated from profile generator output, providing an ideal low cost solution for a six zone installation. DRM-I When used as an interface module, the DRM converts an incoming P.W.M. signal into a directly proportional analogue signal (voltage or current). This output can then provide an input to an indicator or chart recorder for monitoring purposes. DRM-B The buffer unit performs a direct 1:1 transformation of the incoming P.W.M. signal, which can then be used as the input for up to 6 DRM-C's in multizone applications where more than 6 zones need to be controlled from 1 profile generator. All models are supplied dual voltage (110/240V) as standard and carry a 1 year warranty. The Event Driver Module is an 8 channel event expansion system for the Proteus Series P1100 and P3040 Profilers.
This module extends the P1100/P3000 event handling capabilities from 4 to 8 events, and allows internal option slots previously dedicated to event outputs, to be used for other purposes. Communication with the module is in digital format via a logic output option board situated in slot 5 of the controller. This allows a simple 2 wire connection in screened cable between the 2 units. On board intelligence provides reliable and accurate data transfer to the event module and a fault LED provides "at a glance" indication of any problem. The eight event outputs are each capable of switching an external relay, SSR or small indicator lamp and direct connection to the FGH DRR8 (eight channel relay module) is possible with a simple 9 way cable. The EDM module is easily mounted in the back of a panel on standard DIN rail. DRR8 - Eight Channel Relay Module The DRR8 is an eight way, DIN rail mounting relay module intended for use with the FGH P450, P1100 and P3000 Series digital programmers.
The unit consists of a 12V power supply, capable of accepting a 110V or 240V mains input and eight form C relays. Each relay can switch up to 2 amps at 250V and is provided with CR arc suppression which may be used if required. The relays are selected using the 8 select lines fed into the unit via the nine way D type connector (provided). This connector is designed for direct connection to the P450 event output port or EDM event driver module. Installation The DRR8 unit is intended for back of panel installation and may be mounted on a standard DIN rail (either symmetric or asymmetric types). Installation is easy, simply engage the mounting feet into the top edge of the rail and push firmly to click the unit into position. To remove the unit from the rail, lever back the release tabs with a screwdriver and lift away from the rail. Spare Boards for Proteus 1000 and 3000 Series
